Sibutramine is sometimes advised to help the obese lose weight or overweight patients, with doctors who have guidelines as to when that can be used.
Bearing in mind that to lose weight, the best chance of long-term success is to choose a healthy diet and if you can exercise regularly, which is not limited only to the use of medication, weight loss.
Sibutramine is a medication sometimes recommended by doctors, but not the wonder drug because it only helps in part, why should join a proper diet to achieve weight loss.
This drug works primarily leading the state of satisfaction or satiety, with low intake.
What is the level of effectiveness?
Studies have shown that on average a reduction sibutramine and diet, doing exercise more, causes more weight loss than just diet and exercise.
Some people lose up to 7% or more of their body weight within 6-12 months with the help of sibutramine, and in others it is less effective.
One reason why this medicine may not work, is the mistake of thinking that works by itself, in which case the problem lies in individual understanding, that combined with diet and exercise, and assign the result only the action of the drug, considering that you can do everything, as only partially suppresses the appetite.
Clinical guidelines for use:
Doctors prescribe the following guidelines for its use:
- Recommended only if you have had difficulty in achieving weight loss over a period of three months, had not tended result of diet and exercise alone.
- Your BMI (Body Mass Index);
- Must be 30 or greater.
- And you must be 27 or above, if you have a medical condition that would benefit from weight loss (like diabetes).
- You must lose at least 2 kg within four weeks, and 5% of their initial weight by three months of sibutramine and if not, the treatment should be stopped.
- Must be between the ages of 18 and 65.
If you continue to lose weight, sibutramine can be continued for a maximum period of one year.
You should not take sibutramine if you have: high blood pressure, heart disease, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythm) or have had a stroke.
Side effects:
- Constipation, dry mouth and difficulty sleeping are relatively common.
- Your blood pressure and pulse should be evaluated by your doctor who will monitor these parameters during treatment with sibutramine.
You will have to stop taking this medication if their blood pressure or resting pulse increases to start taking it.
